ABSTRACT

The COVID-19 epidemic has damaged developing as well as developed economies and reduced the profitability of several companies. Technological advancement plays a vital role in the company's performance in this current situation. All activities carry on virtually. In this study, the financial performance of enterprises in the South Asian banking industry will be compared before and after the COVID-19 epidemic. Furthermore, the full influence of the pandemic will take place in the long run. This study also explains the technological effect on improving performance, especially during the period of the COVID-19 pandemic. It has an impact on people's social lives as well as the economic world. This study examined a sample of 34 banks from the South Asian region from 2016 to 2021. A Wilcox rank test was used to determine whether there was a significant difference before and after the epidemic era. The overall conclusion of this study is that the COVID-19 pandemic had a significant influence on the bank's financial performance, particularly in terms of profitability. But technological advancement has a positive effect on organizational performance, ultimately increasing the financial performance of South Asian banks. And there is a big difference between pre-pandemic and post-pandemic organizational performance. The findings of this study have significant policy implications since it is clear that cooperation among governments, banks, regulatory agencies, and central banks is necessary to address the financial and economic effects of the COVID-19 pandemic.

ABSTRACT

Since the end of 2019, COVID-19 caused by SARS-CoV-2 has spread worldwide, and the understanding of the new coronavirus is in a preliminary stage. Currently, immunotherapy, cell therapy, antiviral therapy, and Chinese herbal medicine have been applied in the clinical treatment of the new coronavirus;however, more efficient and safe drugs to control the progress of the new coronavirus are needed. Long noncoding RNAs (lncRNAs), microRNAs (miRNAs), and circular RNAs (circRNAs) may provide new therapeutic targets for novel coronavirus treatments. The first aim of this paper is to review research progress on COVID-19 in the respiratory, immune, digestive, circulatory, urinary, reproductive, and nervous systems. The second aim is to review the body systems and potential therapeutic targets of lncRNAs, miRNAs, and circRNAs in patients with COVID-19. The current research on competing endogenous RNA (ceRNA) (lncRNA-miRNA-mRNA and circRNA-miRNA-mRNA) in SARS-CoV-2 is summarized. Finally, we predict the possible therapeutic targets of four lncRNAs, MALAT1, NEAT1, TUG1, and GAS5, in COVID-19. Importantly, the role of PTEN gene in the ceRNA network predicted by lncRNA MALAT1 and lncRNA TUG1 may help in the discovery and clinical treatment of effective drugs for COVID-19.

ABSTRACT

The role of the family doctor contracted service system in China's medical and health system is increasing day by day. However, with the steady increase in contracting coverage, the phenomenon of "signing up but not contracting" has become common; to improve the current situation, the personalized signing service model has been strongly advocated. To promote the smooth implementation of the personalized contracted service model with family doctor competency as its core, this study used the signal game model to analyze the market equilibrium state of the signing service model. The results of this analysis reveal the following: (1) The camouflage of the number of contracts leads to distortion of the signal effect and to market failure, that is, the cost of competency camouflage is the primary factor affecting the equilibrium of contracted services. (2) The incompleteness of contracted services leads to quantity but not quality in the contracting market, that is, the payment of personalized service packages, the value-added utility of personalized services, and service gaps are the key factors that affect the decision-making behavior of the public. With this knowledge in mind, a compensation incentive mechanism that matches the competence level of the family doctor should be established, the formulation of contracted service agreements should be improved, and the participation of family doctors and residents should be encouraged, while the promotion of personalized contracted services should be enhanced and relevant supporting measures should be improved.

ABSTRACT

BACKGROUND: Vaccination is indeed one of the interventional strategies available to combat coronavirus disease (COVID-19). This study emphasizes the relevance of citizens' acceptance of the COVID-19 vaccine in assisting global recovery from the pandemic and aiding the tourism industries to return to normalcy. This study further presented the impact of COVID-19 on the tourism industry in China. Also, the study confirmed the past performance of tourism in China to the current tourism-related COVID-19 effects from a global perspective by employing Australia's outbound tourism data from 2008 to 2020 on top 6 destinations, including China, Indonesia, New Zealand, Thailand, the United Kingdom, and the United States. METHODS: Jeffrey's Amazing Statistical Program (JASP) was used to analyze this study. The JASP statistical software was employed to accurately analyze the vaccines administered in China from December 15, 2020, to March 28, 2021. RESULTS: The study results demonstrate an overwhelming acceptance of vaccines in China which will positively and significantly impact the globe's travel and tourism industries. Also, the study findings indicated that industries in tourism are hopeful of regaining the past losses. Further, the study results showed an enormous decline in death and new cases. CONCLUSION: Vaccine acceptance is relevant for the eradication of the COVID-19 pandemic. Therefore, neighborhood and individual-level acceptance of the vaccine will help reduce the challenges facing the tourism industries and the world. The researchers recommend that authorities should strictly check the vaccination certificates of visitors. Furthermore, hoteliers should put adequate measures to monitor all visitors who visit the various tourist destinations.

ABSTRACT

This research intends to increase awareness of the existence of psychological breach contracts on emotional exhaustion in the context of a prolonged COVID-19 pandemic, with the function of organizational distrust (OD) and job insecurity (JI) serving as mediating factors. We used partial least squares structural equation modeling (PLS-SEM) to look at the 437 questionnaires that private sector workers in Pakistan filled out during the COVID-19 outbreak. The findings of direct and indirect effects show that (PBC) psychological breach contract directly leads to emotional exhaustion (EH) and has a significant indirect relationship through job insecurity (JI). Moreover, psychological contract breach (PBC) directly leads to emotional exhaustion (EH) and has a significant indirect relationship through organization distrust (OD). The study shows both theoretical and practical implications, as well as areas where more research needs to be done.

ABSTRACT

During the development of COVID-19 caused by SARS-CoV-2 infection from mild disease to severe disease, it can trigger a series of complications and stimulate a strong cellular and humoral immune response. However, the precise identification of blood immune cell response dynamics and the relevance to disease progression in COVID-19 patients remains unclear. We propose for the first time to use changes in cell numbers to establish new subgroups, which were divided into four groups: first from high to low cell number (H_L_Group), first from low to high (L_H_Group), continuously high (H_Group), and continuously low (L_Group). It was found that in the course of disease development. In the T cell subgroup, the immune response is mainly concentrated in the H_L_Group cell type, and the complications are mainly in the L_H_Group cell type. In the NK cell subgroup, the moderate patients are mainly related to cellular immunity, and the severe patients are mainly caused by the disease, while severe patients are mainly related to complications caused by diseases. Our study provides a dynamic response of immune cells in human blood during SARS-CoV-2 infection and the first subgroup analysis using dynamic changes in cell numbers, providing a new reference for clinical treatment of COVID-19.

ABSTRACT

Objectives: Currently, cardiovascular risk associated with COVID-19 has been brought to people's attention, but the mechanism is not clear. The aim of this study is to elucidate the mechanisms based on multiple omics data. Methodology: Weighted gene co-expression network analysis (WGCNA) was used to identify key pathways. Combination analysis with aneurysm and atherosclerosis related pathways, hypoxia induced factor-1 (HIF-1) signaling were identified as key pathways of the increased cardiovascular risk associated with COVID-19. ScMLnet algorithm based on scRNA-seq was used to explore the regulation of HIF-1 pathway by intercellular communication. Proteomic analysis was used to detect the regulatory mechanisms between IL18 and HIF-1 signaling pathway. Pseudo time locus analysis was used to study the regulation of HIF1 signaling pathway in macrophages and vascular smooth muscle cells (VSMC) phenotypic transformation. The Virtual Inference of protein-activity by Enriched Regulon (VIPER) analysis was used to study the activity of regulatory proteins. Epigenetic analysis based on methylation revealed epigenetic changes in PBMC after SARS-CoV-2 infection. Potential therapeutic compounds were explored by using Cmap algorithm. Results: HIF-1 signaling pathway is a common key pathway for aneurysms, atherosclerosis and SARS-CoV-2 infection. Intercellular communication analysis showed that macrophage-derived interleukin-18 (IL-18) activates the HIF-1 signaling pathway through IL18R1. Proteomic analysis showed that IL18/IL18R1 promote NF-κB entry into the nucleus, and activated the HIF-1 signaling pathway. Macrophage-derived IL18 promoted the M1 polarization of macrophages and the syntactic phenotype transformation of VSMCs. MAP2K1 mediates the functional regulation of HIF-1 signaling pathway in various cell types. Epigenetic changes in PBMC after COVID-19 infection are characterized by activation of the type I interferon pathway. MEK inhibitors are the promising compounds for the treatment of HIF-1 overactivation. Conclusions: The IL18/IL18R1/HIF1A axis is expected to be an therapeutic target for cardiovascular protection after SARS-CoV-2 infection. MEK inhibitors may be an choice for cardiovascular protection after SARS-COV-2 infection.

ABSTRACT

Fibrinogen-associated protein (FREP) family is a family of proteins with a fibrin domain at the carboxyl terminus. Recent investigations illustrated that two members of FREP family, fibrinogen-like protein-1 (FGL1) and fibrinogen-like protein-2 (FGL2), play crucial roles in cancer by regulating the proliferation, invasion, and migration of tumor cells, or regulating the functions of immune cells in tumor microenvironment. Meanwhile, they are potential targets for medical intervention of tumor development. In this review, we discussed the structure, and the roles of FGL1 and FGL2 in tumors, especially the roles in regulating immune cell functions.

ABSTRACT

Companies with manufacturing systems that are more responsive and resilient will be able to survive or even gain market shares in the face of the unpredicted variable of an outbreak similar to the COVID-19 pandemic. Motivated by an industrial company restructuring its manufacturing system with the layout of fixed-position assembly islands (FPAI) during the COVID-19 pandemic, this paper introduces the synchronization-oriented reconfiguration of FPAI under Graduation Intelligent Manufacturing System (GiMS). Inspired by the graduation ceremony, a novel manufacturing mode-Graduation Manufacturing System (GMS) with ticket-based reconfigurable structures, is designed for organizing production operations with simplicity and resilience for the layout of FPAI. The IIoT and digital twin-enabled GiMS is developed for transforming real-time visibility in operations to support the reconfiguration of the manufacturing system. A synchronization-oriented reconfiguration mechanism is proposed to achieve the synchronous interaction among changing customer demand, island configuration, and production activities allocation rapidly and cost-effectively. Cloud services integrating the proposed reconfiguration mechanism are developed for managers and onsite operators for supporting the successful reconfiguration implementation with enhanced operational visibility. Through the case study of an industrial company, the effectiveness of the proposed concept and approach is verified.

ABSTRACT

Entrepreneurial orientation has recently been touted as a tool for solving enterprise failures in emerged and emerging economies especially during and after an epidemic. This study aims at understanding the impact of entrepreneurial orientation on enterprise performance in the Ghanaian food processing industry by assessing the mediating effects of innovation types and intellectual property. Data were collected from 702 owners/managers in the food processing industry via survey questionnaires. The data were analyzed using the partial least squares structural equation modeling (PLS-SEM) to test the hypothesis via the Smart PLS software. The findings show that entrepreneurial orientation, innovation types, and intellectual property positively and significantly influenced enterprise performance. Furthermore, the results indicated that the mediation effects of innovation types and intellectual property were full and partial, respectively. Useful policy implications are further proposed and discussed based on the study results.

ABSTRACT

The novel coronavirus (COVID-19) has become a global pandemic outbreak. Patients with COVID-19 are prone to progress to acute respiratory distress syndrome (ARDS), and even severe ARDS with ineffective mechanical ventilation, and an extremely high mortality. Extracorporeal membrane oxygenation (ECMO) provides effective respiratory support and saves time for the treatment of severe COVID-19. The present study reports that a 31-year-old pregnant female infected by COVID-19, who suffered from fever, dyspnea, and rapid ARDS. The patient's pulmonary function gradually recovered by combining early mechanical ventilation and ECMO, and finally, this patient was successfully weaned from ECMO and the ventilator. No fibrosis lesions were found in the chest CT, and the patient recovered very well after leaving from the hospital for one month.
